Unverhofft kommt oft – oder Asus nimmt Stellung zu Transformer Prime Problemen

Gestern haben wir ja schon berichtet, das ASUS derzeit schwer Prügel einstecken muss. Das Update ist übrigens noch nicht erhältlich, zumindest zeigt mein Prime noch keins an, aber ASUS hat jetzt hoch offiziell Stellung zu allen Punkten bezogen und dabei durchaus schnell eingelenkt, vor allem was den Bootloader angeht. Aber auch zum ICS Update gibt es Neuigkeiten…

Wie heutzutage schwer in Mode kamen dieses per Facebook:

Hier geht es um das versprochene Update, welches eigentlich schon heute per OTA ausgeliefert werden sollte. Habe eben noch einmal geschaut, aber mein Prime zeigt nix an von wegen Update. Also weiter abwarten und hoffen. Übrigens überlege ich gerade, ob ich bei meinem Testbericht zum Prime noch mit dem nächsten Teil eben bis zu diesem Update warten soll, denn da wollte ich die Probleme mit dem GPS und WLAN eingehend beleuchten.

Wie jetzt…schon in 9 Tagen soll das Rollout des Ice Cream Sandwich Updates beginnen? Eben noch schreiben die, das in Kürze Update auf die Version 8.8.3.33 kommen soll und dann ganz gezielt ein datum für ICS nennen? Wäre zu schön, um wahr zu sein oder?

Please understand there are limitations when using the GPS function. To avoid inconveniencing users who demand a powerful GPS device, we made the decision to remove it from our specification sheet and marketing communications. Bei diesen Sätzen weiß ich nicht, ob ich mal herzhaft lachen oder weinen soll…weil das Gehäuse aus Alu besteht, kommen GPS Signale nicht so gut an und zudem beeinflusst auch die Umgebung das GPS Signal. Außerdem ist das Prime kein „professionelles“ GPS Gerät und von daher hat ASUS dieses Produktmerkmal, also das mit dem GPS, aus der Featureliste kurzerhand entfernt. Nach dem Motto: was nicht dasteht, kann auch nicht bemängelt werden…

Hallo ASUS, schon mal geschaut, wie das z.B. HTC macht? Da bestehen die Bodys auch aus Alu und sind sicher keine Profi-GPS Geräte, aber da scheint es zu funktionieren oder können die zaubern? Sehr fragwürdiges Verhalten für einen Premiumhersteller oder?

Regarding the bootloader, the reason we chose to lock it is due to content providers‘ requirement for DRM client devices to be as secure as possible. ASUS supports Google DRM in order to provide users with a high quality video rental experience. Also, based on our experience, users who choose to root their devices risk breaking the system completely. However, we know there is demand in the modding community to have an unlocked bootloader. Therefore, ASUS is developing an unlock tool for that community. Please do note that if you choose to unlock your device, the ASUS warranty will be void, and Google video rental will also be unavailable because the device will be no longer protected by security mechanism.

Asus verteidigt den gesperrten Bootloader mit der Unterstützung der kommenden Online-Videothek. Ganz unrecht hat man damit nicht, denn so könnte man sehr leicht das Material vom Tablet auf den heimischen Computer laden und würde so die Nutzerrechte verletzen. Kann man also durchaus nachvollziehen. Und da man um die Moddingszene weiß, wird man, wie schon HTC, einen hauseigenen Bootloader-Unlock anbieten. Dabei geht die Garantie natürlich flöten und auch die Unterstützung für die Videothek deaktiviert bzw. entfernt. Finde ich eine brauchbare Lösung, die alle Seiten zufrieden stellen sollte.

Der Bootloader interessiert mich persönlich nicht, aber ich bin jetzt schon ganz hibbelig wegen des ICS Updates. Ich glaube, das ich das noch als Extra Teil in meinen Testbericht einbauen werde, bevor ich das Fazit schreibe.
